Verus Forum 2024

In September we welcomed over 20 CultArm3D users, experts and researchers from across the cultural heritage sector to Darmstadt for the first-ever Verus Forum. This two-day event was designed to showcase the latest developments in 3D digitization, exchange ideas and strengthen the network of professionals pushing the boundaries of cultural heritage preservation. The program combined inspiring case studies and technical insights.

Day one focused on sharing experiences and exploring use cases, featuring presentations from Dr. Alexander Wolny (BLM Karlsruhe) and Dr. Veronica Diez-Diaz (MfN Berlin) on their 3D-digitization journeys, followed by an in-depth project showcase about “Making Archival Objects Tangible” by Wolfgang Krauth and Dr. Patrick Leiske from the Landesarchiv Baden-Württemberg as well as a talk on “Mastering 3D Digitization” by the Verus team. The day concluded with a lively roundtable discussion joined by world-renowned experts like Prof. Dr. Mona Hess, Sandy Ressler, Pedro Santos and Dr. Alexander Wolny. The discussion ranged from practical implementation to the broader role of 3D in making cultural heritage more accessible.

Day two shifted focus to hands-on demonstrations in our Lab. We heard from state-of-the-art tech providers like Cuttlefish and the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research, covering everything from 3D printing and VR/AR applications to the latest CultArm3D product updates. Attendees got a first look at upcoming features like UV capture, PBR capture, and our enhanced 3D viewer. We also explored applications beyond scanning, such as VR/AR presentations and 3D printing. The live demos sparked plenty of questions and feedback, giving us invaluable input for our future development process.

Throughout the event, we gathered valuable feedback, feature requests, and fresh ideas for the future. The enthusiasm in the room confirmed that the Verus Forum will become a recurring highlight in our calendar.

We’re grateful to every speaker, partner and attendee who helped make our first Verus Forum a success. The ideas and connections formed here will guide our work in the coming year and we’re already looking forward to welcoming everyone back in 2025 for even more inspiring conversations and breakthroughs in 3D digitization.
