Samurai Berlin
Recently we had the opportunity to work with a real samurai mask and helmet from Samurai Museum Berlin.
The headpiece we digitized was stunningly beautiful and featured detailed engravings as well as golden ornaments. This is because it was never intended to be used in battle and instead functioned as a mere status symbol. Therefore this kawari kabuto (unconventional helmet) from the early edo period was well preserved and made for a perfect digitization project.
We captured both pieces (mask and helmet) separately and got two interlocking models, perfect for custom animations, VR/AR experiences, 3D-printing and other means of reproduction. The results have then been sent to the high-tech manufacturer FANUC as to create a full metal replica of the mask using CnC-milling. Watch the video below to learn more about our collaboration.
